Meta spent more on D.C. lobbying in 2024 than in any previous year, as the government debated whether to enforce a ban on its rival TikTok. The surge in spending also came as Congress considered new content moderation laws, which Meta’s lobbying helped to block from passing in a year-end legislative push.

Meta’s lobbying spending rose to $24.4 million last year, according to filings with the Senate, an increase of more than a quarter over the previous year at the federal level. In the first quarter of 2024, the period when the TikTok ban was initially approved by the U.S. House, Meta had its highest-ever lobbying spend, at $7.6 million.
