Defense hawk Rep. Ken Calvert, the Republican chair of the subcommittee that oversees the Pentagon’s budget, represents a Southern California seat that’s being targeted by the House Democrats’ campaign arm for a 2026 takeover.

Facing several Democratic challengers in the midterm, Calvert’s campaign has raised a hefty $1.7 million through the first six months of this year, according to a new Federal Election Commission filing covering Q2—buoyed by donations from the PACs of defense companies whose federal contract funding he oversees.

After redistricting in 2021, California's Forty-First Congressional District, in the Inland Empire region outside Los Angeles, leans Republican by only a couple of percentage points.
