Six American “Big Oil” companies spent more than $29 million combined on federal political contributions during the 2023-24 election cycle, a Sludge analysis of Federal Election Commission and ProPublica 527 Explorer data found. 

The donations helped propel Republicans to control Congress, where lawmakers are preparing to expand oil and gas drilling and reverse environmental protections.
