You’ve likely heard about Trump’s selection of fracking CEO Chris Wright to serve as Energy Secretary, but there is another nominee with fossil fuel company ties that Trump has selected to serve alongside Wright at the Department of Energy (DOE) who has received less attention.

In a late January post to Truth Social, Trump announced his selection of Preston Wells Griffith, a seasoned Republican operative and former administration official, for under secretary of energy at the DOE where he will manage offices focused on energy production. One is the Office of Fossil Energy and Carbon Management, which handles research and development of programs involving oil, coal, and natural gas. Trump’s announcement said that Griffith will work with Wright to “DRILL, BABY, DRILL,” and Griffith echoed the sentiment on X, saying, “I am truly honored… to unleash American Energy Dominance!”
