Summary

News media fails to report on the Democratic dark money behind physician group whose anti-RFK letter they covered.

Ahead of the confirmation process for Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to lead the Department of Health and Human Services, an online letter allegedly signed by nearly 20,000 physicians that calls the nomination “an affront to the principles of public health” and urges the U.S. Senate to reject Kennedy’s confirmation is being widely reported in the news. Outlets including The Guardian, CBS News, United Press International, Reuters, the New York Times, and many others have recently covered the letter, outlining its list of concerns with Kennedy’s record on medical matters. None of the outlets, however, mention that the organization behind the petition is funded by Democratic dark money and tied to Democratic super PACs.

The letter is hosted by the Committee to Protect Health Care, a dark money group that has received grants from some of the largest funders of Democratic super PACs and has its own affiliated super PAC that spent more than $400,000 supporting Kamala Harris and opposing Donald Trump during the elections.
